you've got a point there

seems that the system could actually do some good on the high rated spheres of RM.
about for example less serious and smaller ladders, like cba, i predict negative results.

I also believe the decay system doesn't have to work for ratings below 2100 because the skill difference from 2000-2200 is much smaller than 1800-2000.

This.

I think there should be an ALL TIME ladder with players with the highest recordings of all time and there should be a current ladder with the current higher active players. Also I think everyone should have a current rating, and highest achieved rating.

I feel most people who are against this are over-rated in the first place and unable to maintain their rating if they're forced to play regularly in whatever ladder they are involved in.

Successful competitions have seasonal ladders (look at all your professional sports).

Implementing a decay system is guaranteed to create more games between top level players, as well as the rest.

people are so naive here...

most players who are the cause of ruining the ratings are not trying to GAIN points. they are trying to LOSE points so they can smurf more lower rated games. they don't want to compete at their level. they want to pwn people at lower levels.

anything that makes it easier for people to lose points needs to go away

inactivity is a useless excuse because all these guys are still playing aoc and keeping their skills up... just on a different nick because they are smurfs

So say someone is in an accident, and hospitalized for say a month. and their rate was 21++. They are going to get punished for being hurt. Sometimes life happens, why force people to play to keep a rate that most of them worked for? I know personally I wont ever get a rate that high, so it will not effect me. As messed up as the rating system is. That, in my opinion would not be fair to a lot of people.

It's a game rating, not a job, not a marriage, not serious bussiness. Just get over it.

No they most likely wouldn't be concerned with it at the time. That being said, when they got back to the game, they would be. As I said, life happens. Someone who had a legit reason for not playing, should not be treated the same as someone who just left the game for another.

Seasonal Ratings is probably the best idea I've heard so far. Every 4 or 6 months, rate RM or CS and alternate. That way, people can try something new for once. Also, keep records of their ratings so that you know how they did one season and you can compare it to another season.
